Workplace Safety Workshops

Recognizing and addressing workplace addiction.

In partnership with companies, Mrs. Harrison’s workshops train employers in recognizing the signs and symptoms of addiction as well as education about the disease of addiction. The problem of addiction defies stigma, affecting those with full-time employment as well as the unemployed and underemployed. In fact, 60% of adults classified as having substance abuse problems in 2007 were employed full-time.

The results of substance abuse are of concern to employers:

  • Increased healthcare costs due to illness and injury
  • Lost productivity & performance
  • Increases in worker’s compensation claims
  • Higher absenteeism
  • Safety risks and other risks for employers
Through training in recognition of addiction signs and symptoms, employers are empowered to address workplace issues and take constructive action to improve the condition of their employees and business.

Substance abuse sufferers commonly:

  • Have difficulty fulfilling or fail to fulfill obligations at home and work
  • Have recurrent legal or financial problems
  • Continue to abuse substances despite the results on their lives
  • Use substances when impairment is particularly hazardous, such as while driving or operating machinery
Recognizing Workplace Addiction workshops enhance workplace safety and productivity by supplying employers with the knowledge and tools needed to produce positive change in the workforce.
